BSNL general manager (mobile) A R Sawatkar told ToI that Nashik and Goa were expected to go 3G on June 21 and 24 respectively. "At present, the system is under testing and our senior officials having 3G enabled handsets were successfully operating. The installation and testing procedure of BTS (base-station transceiver systems) and 3G equipments is under process. By next month end, BSNL customers, having 3G-enabled handsets, will be able to access services across the city," he added.
There is a rider. These services will only be available in city areas, not in rural parts. Giving details about 3G (third generation), Sawatkar said that services like video-calling, high-speed internet with download speeds over 3 Mbps, and entertainment through BSNL live WAP portal having rich content like movies, music, Mobile TV Video, wallpapers, ring tones and others will become available at the click of button.
