In some respite to the 26 bachelor of education (BEd) colleges in the city, the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court on Friday granted them permission to admit students from this academic session. The National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE), Bhopal, the apex body for education and physical education faculties, had banned admissions in 78 colleges coming under Nagpur division for failing to appoint regular principals/directors.
A division bench comprising justices Sharad Bobde and Arun Chaudhari also gave the colleges a six-month breather as per the Supreme Court directives to appoint principals after they submitted an undertaking that they would abide by the apex court's deadline.
The application by the colleges contended that despite issuing multiple advertisements, they were not able to find suitable candidates, and then the NCTE stopped their admissions.
