She then fled to Bareilly where she wanted to convert to Islam. The 30-year-old woman was tracked down to Bareilly by Delhi Police and brought back to Delhi, said police. A case of kidnapping had been registered at Sarojini Nagar police station.
The woman was reported missing from Dilli Haat on June 25 by her husband. ``She had wanted to convert to Islam, which her husband did not agree to. It was also discovered that she had been in touch with several people in Bareilly and Lucknow while she was at Nagpur. To escape to Bareilly, she decided to come to Delhi along with her husband and their adopted son. The family, along with one of the woman's cousins, visited Dilli Haat on June 25.
``The woman and her cousin went to the washroom. When the husband called on her mobile phone, she said she had sent her cousin back for him. But when he reached the washroom, he could not find his wife," said DCP (south) HGS Dhaliwal. After some time, he got a call from his wife who told him she had been kidnapped by 2-3 persons and that she had been dumped in the boot of a car. Then, her mobile phone was switched off. Raids were conducted in the NCR on the basis of the information and leads gathered but the woman could not be traced."
Cops learnt that the woman had procured two different SIM numbers in Nagpur. The verification further revealed that she had come in contact with a maulana in Bareilly with the help of an assistant who worked at her boutique.
“The assistant told us that the woman was upset because the couple had had no children even after several years of marriage. The assistant then introduced her to clerics from Bareilly and Lucknow after which she started talking to them over the phone," said a senior police officer.
That tip helped police track the woman down to Bareilly.
