You can earn money if you know the location of a godown storing plastic bags with less than 50 micron thickness. You just have to tell Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) about it. The civic agency has promised to keep your name secret and provide you 25% of the amount derived from the sale of these bags as scrap material.
NMC has launched a drive against plastic bags in view of environmental problems caused by them.
The use of plastic bags of less than 50 micron thickness was banned by the state government way back in 2005, following the flooding of Mumbai. However, the ban has remained on paper and the use of these bags continues to be widespread.
NMC health officer Dr Milind Ganvir said that it was not practical to nab shopkeepers and shoppers using these bags. The bags are stored in godowns and if the supply chain is broken at a higher level, the use of plastic bags would automatically stop, he said.
