Pirated CDs and DVDs worth 4 lakh were recovered during a raid conducted by the crime branch at two different places in the city on Thursday afternoon. Police said that the accused used to sell the pirated materials under the guise of books.
Cops were tipped off about the illegal act being carried out at the parcel office of Saibaba Travels. Police said that the miscreants used to order pirated CDs and DVDs from Madhya Pradesh and used to pack them in a parcel having the label of books.
However, the address mentioned on the parcel was of a book shop.
Acting swiftly, the cops raided Saibaba Travels at Ganeshpeth and found two parcels of the pirated CDs and DVDs. Later, the cops raided the residence of Ghanshyam Balani at Adivasi Colony and seized fake material worth 84,500. After questioning Balani, the cops raided a godown near Dakshinamurti Chowk and seized pirated materials worth 3 lakh. Balani and Sheikh Gaffar have been arrested.
Unidentified miscreants were booked for attempting to kill two youths over a trivial issue at Chhattrapati Square on Wednesday night. Nandkishore Koyre and his friend Vihank Avchat are now recuperating at a hospital.
