Naxals on Thursday set afire four vehicles in Korchi tahsil of Gadchiroli district. The incident occurred a day ahead of the two-day bandh the Naxals have called from Friday to demand calling off of Operation Green Hunt and protest the alleged beating up of Perimili villagers by the police after a blast on October 4 that killed four policemen inside the village.
“A truck, a tractor, a tractor with a trolley and a road roller were burnt by Naxals near Jagadwahi village in Korchi. They were being used to construct a road that is to connect the village to another road from Petkati to Bori,” Additional Superintendent of Police Chandrakishore Meena said.
Asked if the Naxals had resisted the construction of the road, he said, “there was no such record.” There were also reports of Naxals blocking roads by felling trees, but Meena said, “they haven\'t yet been confirmed.”
Naxals often fell trees or spread rumours to attract police for an ambush. The police are, of late, careful in not rushing to the spot. A similar trap last year at Hattigota in north Gadchiroli had claimed lives of 16 police personnel, including five policewomen.
