The 'Mahatma Phule Market Bachao Samiti' has called an indefinite strike starting Monday. The major complaint of the association is that the NMC has sealed off the parking area that was being used by trucks to unload daily market produce.
The association alleged that NMC gave no warning before they built a compound wall around the open area. "This caused the vehicles delivering the farm produce to clog up the area. We tried to sort the problem out but did not get positive response," claimed Jivanji Dharkar, chairman of the association.
Assistant commissioner of Dhantoli zonal office Mahesh Dhamecha said, "That area is still a dedicated parking space for vendors, but it was observed that they misused that area and started selling vegetables from parked trucks. It creates a lot of hurdles for buyers as well as sellers.
