The course will be for those wanting to know the basics of the disease and the lifestyle needed to prevent it. The people undergoing the course will be awarded with a certificate in diabetes care for community workers (CDCW). The minimum qualification for this course is 10+2 and the fee is Rs 2,000 which will include study material, theory and practical classes. The course duration is six months.
Diabetes is deadly because most patients are not even aware they are suffering from it or are prone to it. It is a non-communicable disease but is spreading rapidly due to industrialization, changing lifestyle and change in food habits. Diabetes affects organs like kidneys and eyes, leading to major complications.
The theory will cover a number of topics related to disease ranging from diagnosis and monitoring, complications and education to counseling and prevention of diabetes. The practical classes will cover implementation of blood pressure tests, foot examination, blood and urine testing, active and passive exercises, technique of injecting insulin and dressing a diabetic wound. The classes will be held at Diabetes Care and Research Centre run by Dr Sunil Gupta.
