Vinay Singh, a public works engineer from Uttar Pradesh, said that his knowledge about several routes of executing projects had increased. "Several experts told us about the nitty-gritty of public private partnership (PPP) projects. Maharashtra has executed many projects by taking the PPP route. In UP, it is yet to take off in a big way. As our government is now planning some more projects I feel that the knowledge gained here will be of great use to me in future."
SVN Kumar from Andhra Pradesh expressed satisfaction over the session. "Almost every issue related to road sector was discussed here. Many new technologies are being used in road sector but their use is not widespread in India. Talks by experts on these technologies will help everybody."
VK Kapoor from Madhya Pradesh said that other than the lectures and presentations, he benefitted a lot of interacting with counterparts from other states. "I learnt about the problems involved in building roads in mountainous terrain from engineers of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. A BRO engineer told me how difficult it was to work in frontier areas."
Maharashtra public works department (PWD) officials Santosh Choudhary and Ajay Pohekar said that a number of issues were discussed in the meeting of top road officials on Sunday, including the annual plan Rs 3,975 crore of national highways, model for taking up research and development in road sector, promoting use of viscosity grade bitumen and installation of automatic traffic counters.
Engineers Niranjan Telang and Neeta Thakre said that new office-bearers were elected in the session. Dr VK Yadav, assistant director general of Border Roads Organisation, was elected as president. Superintending engineer PL Kadu of Nagpur was elected as council member.
Abhijit Chatterjee of Central PWD said that the 194th mid-term session would be held in Agartala next April while Lucknow would host the 72th annual session in December next.
