Coach attendant booked for abetting theft on train

Keen observation by a train passenger has led to registration of an offence against a coach attendant on a train passing through Nagpur. Government Railway Police, Nagpur, had to book the coach attendant for abetment of theft after a passenger alleged that the attendant had increased the cooling from the air-conditioning in the coach beyond tolerable limits, to help thieves steal belongings.

Superintendent of police (in-charge) SK Nikam said the passenger had complained that the coach attendant had set the air-conditioning at such a low temperature that all the people in the coach slipped into a deep slumber in their warm blankets.

"This apparently helped thieves and bag-lifters to decamp with valuables when the passengers were fast asleep in the chilled compartment. We thought that such allegations needed to be probed, and hence we booked the attendant," said Nikam.
