Amravati is the lowest revenue generating division in entire state with issues like malnutrition in Melghat. It is necessary that something is done to change this situation, he told reporters on his maiden visit to the district today.
Packages were given to farmers' suicides prone five districts in Amravati division and one district in Nagpur division. All alloted funds for these packages have been spent and a study is going on to find out how much difference it has made.
In some districts, farmers' suicides have come down while the situation has not improved much in other districts, he said.
The packages have got mixed response from six districts of western Vidrabha, Chavan said.
Necessitating effective implementation of the Employment Guarantee Scheme (EGS), Chavan said malnutrition death ratio in Melghat will match the state ratio within one year if the implementation of EGS goes on with the same speed. State government will try to do maximum works in this tribal area, he said.
Chavan, however, denied comment on the water alloted to IndiaBulls thermal power project affecting the irrigation in 36,000 hectares of Amravati district.
When asked about transferring the water for irrigation to IndiaBulls thermal power project, he said that it will not be proper to make any comment as it issue is subjudice.
Meanwhile, speaking at a review meet taking stock of development in Melghat, Pritviraj Chavan said it is necessary to implement schemes like MREGS, NRHM and Tiger Project effectively in Melghat to solve problems of this tribal area.
For that, state government will try to get maximum funds from central government for Melghat, he said.
He also said tribals in Melghat should not leave their villages and they will be provided work for entire year. All basic facilities like water, roads, electricity and health will be provided for the development of Melghat, he said.
