About About 58 foreign athletes including 24 women will be participating in the third edition of the Nagpur International Marathon races on January 30, organisers said today.
The marathon carries a total prize money to the tune of about Rs39 lakhs and races would be held in 10 different categories including the full marathon for men for 42.195kms, half marathon for women for 21.097 kms along with men open 12 kms, women open 10 kms, organising secretary principal Babanrao Tauwade, told reporters.
He said races for boys and girls under 18 years and five kms races for men and women above 40 years will be the added attraction.
The participating athletes are from Kenya, Ethopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Ruwanda, Ukrine, Russia and Mangolia (Men). Women athletes are from Kanya, Tanzania, Ethopia and Ukrine, Dinanath Padole, MLA and convenor said.
For the first time a 'timing chip' will be tied with laces in the runner's shoes and they will run through a mist cooling tunnel which will give them cooling effect.
Olympic bronze medalist boxer Vijayendra Singh and former Hockey olympian Dhanraj Pillay will flag off the event. Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan along with other ministers will inaugurate the races. About 85,000 runners will participate in the marathon.
