Relatives said that a few years ago, the deceased's mother Maya too had ended her life by setting herself on fire. They claimed that Maya had taken the extreme step after she learnt about her husband Shivshankar's illicit relationship with another woman.
Though no suicide note was found, relatives alleged that Yogesh ended his life because he was neglected by his father. The incident came to light when the deceased's elder brother Nilesh, who stays nearby, went to call him for breakfast.
"After Maya's death, Shivshankar married again and got separated from his two sons and a daughter which he had from his first wife," said a relative. For two years, the siblings stayed at their aunt's house. After the sister's marriage, the brothers started working and moved to a rented room.
Relatives said that five months ago, Nilesh got married and hence Yogesh shifted to a new room. "Since he was staying alone, he must have felt extremely abandoned. A week ago, he met my father and expressed his desire to get married. When he asked for financial assistance, my father thrashed him," said Nilesh.
He added that Yogesh regularly had meals with him but on Thursday, he did not come. "I went to call him but was shocked to see him hanging," said Nilesh.
Family members said that keeping the future of the children in mind, a police compliant was not lodged after the mother's suicide. "This time around, we will lodge a complaint against the father," said a relative. Nandanwan police have registered a case of accidental death.
