Noticing the bus moving in a zigzag manner, the traffic cop stopped the vehicle. Due to the timely intervention, around 40 passengers travelling in the Starbus to Butibori had a lucky escape.
"The breathalyzer test showed that there was 230 mgs of liquor in the driver's blood," added the cop.
Enraged passengers then asked the cops to take strict action against the driver. They complained that some Starbus drivers drive under the influence of alcohol and causes major accidents.
Starbus manager Mahesh Kandalkar assured that strict action will be taken against Jiwtode. He said the drivers are regularly checked with the help of a breathalyzer before they go on duty.
The cops said that this was only the second case of a Starbus driver being booked. "A couple of years ago, a driver of mini Starbus was arrested for drunk driving," said a cop.
