Trisharan sq mishaptriggers furore

Police on Friday evening had a harrowing time tackling the unruly mob that had blocked the road near Trisharan chowk where a mishap had claimed the life of a local vegetable vendor and left two seriously injured, including a nine-year-old girl, the day before.

The agitating mob, demanding compensation for the family of the victim, obstructed the traffic between Kukde layout and Rameshwari. Vishal Tayyade, 30, was killed on the spot after a rashly driven car hit him. Milind Kamble (43) and Neha Yadav (9) were hurt after the car hit vendors doing business by the roadside.

The protesting kin, supported by the local residents, had parked Tayyade's body near the statue of the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Trisharan Chowk. The family members refused to perform the last rites until they get assurance for compensation from the district administration.

The family members were asking for a government job for Tayyade's wife Vidisha who is now left to raise the three children as the deceased was sole bread-earner of the family. "We need support for education of my children," said Vidisha. A senior official from the district administration had to intervene before the agitation was called off. "The senior official said that he would ensure the formalities are completed as soon as possible so that the victim family receives compensation soon," said a family member.

Ajni police had to ensure that the mob fury did not escalate. The Quick Response Team (QRT) too promptly reached the place. Police had to toil hard to control the crowd until the senior official from district administration reached the place to speak to the agitators.

RV Sonune, senior inspector of Ajni police station, said that the driver of the car had already been booked. "The negligence was glaring in this case. The car owner and his friend were responsible for the entire episode despite knowing that such an act of driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol can lead to such losses," said Sonune.

Devidas Dhoble, who was behind the wheels, apparently had no licence to drive the car. Police said Dhoble was allowed by the car owner Aniruddha Shinde to drive the vehicle despite both being drunk. Dhoble seemed to have lost control while negotiating a u-turn near Trisharan chowk. "I pulled the driver out of the car. He was drunk. The others managed to flee," said Bandu Meshram, who owns a shop at the square.
