The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday broke the lock on the door to the flat belonging RC Thakur, one of the promoters of the controversial Adarsh housing society. A team of CBI officers had sealed Thakur’s flat in Siddhivinayak Apartments at Khare Town on Sunday night
because he was not there but broke the lock the following morning in the presence of witnesses, local CBI officers said.
Sources in the CBI said the team seized several incriminating documents, files and laptops from Thakur’s flat and registered an offence against Thakur and one of his colleagues.
The CBI has conducted raids across seven cities, including Mumbai, Pune, Patna and Nagpur, at the residences of promoters and members of Adarsh society.
Thakur, a former defence employee, was posted at Kamptee Cantonment with retired major general MM Wanchoo, a few years ago. Wanchoo is also a promoter of Adarsh and one of the people whose houses the CBI searched.
It is alleged that when Thakur was an assistant estates officer in Nagpur he allegedly sold defence land in Kamptee, Kingsway and Mahal and earned crores illegally.
He bought three flats, a shop in Madhu Madhav tower at Nagpur and a farmhouse near Ramtek, about 60km from Nagpur.
Thakur is one of the 13 people named in the CBI’s first information report on the Colaba housing society scam.
The CBI had searched Thakur’s Raunak Park residence at Thane and his house in Bihar’s Madhubani district on Sunday.
