President Pratibha Patil today advised lawyers to accept the new challenges by keeping pace with the advancements in technology of 21st century and suggested to maintain legal ethics for healthy judicial system.
She was addressing a platinum jubilee inaugural function of the High Court Bar Association, Nagpur. Maharashtra Governor K Sankarnarayan, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Supreme Court Justice Dalveer Bhandari and V S Sirpurkar, Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Mohit Shah and Dr Devisingh Shekhawat were present on the occasion.
The President said in the era of technological advances, the lawyers must take new challenges by keeping themselves abreast of technology and education.
She said legal profession requires strict confidentiality and advised the lawyers to honour this code.
Ms Patil said lawyers are trustees of justice and asked lawyers to adopt and follow the path of Gandhiji, in a way 'act boldly, pursue truth, defend freedom and above all seek justice.' 'Our collective efforts for judicial reforms are important and necessary. Judicial reforms is a topic requiring considerable discussion,' she said and appealed the lawyers to devote some time and energy to provide legal services for the vulnerable and poor people.
