A Nagpur-based company on Wednesday launched a virtual classroom, connecting about 20 educational institutions in Maharashtra and giving some 50,000 students from professional courses an opportunity to learn from enlisted experts across the world.
The initiative is called ‘Apropos Gumption’, an activity under Watchwitz Technologies’ corporate social responsibility.
It will connect 50 institutions within the state by the end of this fiscal before moving to other states.
“Students get exposure in big cities, but experts are unlikely to come to a city like Nanded or Amravati or Jalgaon to talk to students,” said Kunal Karnik, the brain behind the tool and the company’s director, at the launch in Nagpur. “This tool removes that gap.”
“We intend delivering crash courses of finishing schools for students of technical and non-technical streams to enhance their employability,” Karnik said. “We’ll facilitate inter-college and inter-disciplinary interactions and hold guest lectures by leading experts.”
“Initiatives like this will bridge the knowledge gap between urban and rural areas,” Bharatiya Janata Party national president Nitin Gadkari said after formally launching the initiative.
Last year, the Pune-based Science and Technology Park decided to invest in Apropos Gumption. Rajendra Jagdale, STP director general, said that Apropos Gumption is cost-effective and works on a meagre bandwidth.
