Budget 2011Rs 18.5 crore ZP budget presented

Finance and education committee chairperson of Zilla Parishad Nagorao Jibhkate presented the annual budget for local body for the financial year 2011-12 worth over Rs 18.50 crore on Thursday. While special attention was paid to water supply in rural areas with an allocation of Rs 2.85 crore, schemes for individual benefit of farmers in the district received a meagre allocation of only Rs 86 lakh.

While these allocations elicited a positive response among ruling ZP members, the opposition leaders did not seem very amused and said that at least Rs 2.50 crore should have been allocated for farmers. Jibhkate, while presenting the budget, said that he tried to do justice to all departments. He said that the ZP received Rs 11.14 crore as stamp duty and Rs 1 crore as water tax.

He said that in 2011-12, the expected revenue is Rs 15.99 crore from stamp duty. Health department has been allocated Rs 85.5 lakh from the cess funds of the ZP besides Rs 30 lakh is to be allocated for new health plans in the coming year. Various schemes in social welfare department have been given Rs 2.85 crore.

Rs 30 lakh has been allocated for animal conservation, Rs 24.5 lakh for panchayat department and Rs 1.42 lakh for women and child development. Jibhkate said if a need for any change in the budget allocation arose, it would be done after consulting all members.

ZP president Suresh Bhoyar said that the finance chairman had presented the best possible budget for ZP. "Every department has been given its due and the budget is pro-development. The state government will give Rs 14 crore for development of Dalits up to March 31, 2012. Though, ZP has presented the budget of Rs 18.50 crore, the amended budget will cross Rs 30 crore by June."

Opposition leader of ZP Anand Raut said the farmers of the district had already been victims of natural calamities and government apathy. "They had great hope from ZP but they get only Rs 86 lakh.." He further added the ruling party had received less amount from government as its share of stamp duty despite state government being run by Congress party.
