The businessman David Dornsife, and his wife, Dana, have pledged $200-million to the University of Southern California, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The unrestricted donation to the institution’s College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences, is the largest in the university’s history, topping the $175-million gift from the Star Wars creator George Lucas to the USC film school.
The College of Arts, Letters, and Sciences, which will be renamed for the donors, is expected to use the money for faculty hiring, research, and fellowships.
The son of USC alumni, Mr. Dornsife earned a business degree at the institution in 1965 and now serves as a trustee. He is the chairman and majority owner of Herrick Corporation, a steel-fabricating company in Stockton, Calif.
