Third-year engineering student Monica Kirnapure was murdered in broad daylight in the Nandanwan locality of the city on Friday.
Kirnapure was going to college when she was murdered with a sharp weapon close to the college. Monica, belonging to Nagardhan village about 50 km from here, was a student of SRM Girls’ Engineering College run by Minister of State for Finance and Planning Rajendra Mulak.
The police weren’t been able to zero in on the culprits till late evening, but suspect the murder was the fallout of an one-sided love affair.
Eyewitnesses said the girl was on her vehicle and was nearing the college when two youths, with their faces covered with scarves, came on a bike from behind and attacked her on the neck with a sharp-edged weapon. The girl fell down and tried to resist but they attacked her again, leaving her in a pool of blood.
