National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (Neeri) is organising a two-day 'CSIR Programme on Youth for Leadership in Science ( CPYLS)' at Neeri Auditorium from March 30 to 31 from 10am. The programme will be attended by 88 SSC-passed meritorious students from various schools of Nagpur and the Vidarbha region along with their parents.
Dr AK Joshi, general manager, Regional Remote Sensing Service Centre (ISRO), Nagpur, will preside over the function. Neeri scientists will deliver popular science lectures on various environmental topics.
The students will be taken to various Neeri laboratories to show them practical demonstrations on various significant activities related to environmental science and engineering. The students will get an opportunity to interact with Neeri scientists. They will also be taken to Raman Science Centre to discover science as an exciting, rewarding and fulfilling career.
Brahmotsav at Dwarkadhish Devasthan from Apr 7
Dwarkadhish Devasthan, Dharaskar Road, will celebrate the 17th Brahmotsav from April 7 to 9. Shrimachchri Vivasacharya, Yuvraj Swami and Ammaji will be present. The celebrations will start with a mangal kalash yatra on April 7 at 8.30am. Maha abhishek will be performed from 11am. Bhajan Sandhya will be held at 7pm. A palanquin procession will be held on April 8 at 8.30pm. Vedic scholars from South India will perform Kalyanotsav. Distribution of Kadambhat goshti will be held on April 9 at 10am. Procession of idols will also be held at 4.30pm.
Adventure camp from April 3 in Himalayas
A unique adventure camp is being organised under the leadership of industrialist Mukund Sirmukaddam and Shaila Sirmukaddam for SSC students in snow covered mountains of Uttaranchal Himalayas from April 3. The camp will include gliding, skiing, river rafting, water surfing, water surfing, rock climbing, kayaking, trolley riding, ropebridge river crossing besides snow trekking and sight seeing. Workshop on business process management
VIA Lady Wing & MSME jointly organised a five-day workshop on business process management at Dr Ambedkar Business School recently. Technical knowledge was given on manpower planning and HR practices, production, sourcing options, accounting including costing & budgeting controls, marketing operations design investment sources and application, basic of SCM, role of IT in present business scenario, bank finance for SMS's business ventures, profitability planning & analysis, CRM strategies and enterprise resource planning. The expert management faculties included A Paturkar, Prof C Chakravorty, V Pimplapure, Prof P Kulkarni, Prof S Godbole, Prof D Uike and Prof A Bhodhankar.
NCCL gives memorandum to Ahluwalia on black money, Nagpur as tiger capital
President JP Sharma and honorary secretary Tejinder Singh ReNu of Nagpur Chamber of Commerce Limited (NCCL) submitted a memorandum to Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia in city on Saturday. NCCL stressed upon the need of accountability regarding allocation of budgetary expenditure and actual funds under each head. Chamber recommended that the government check black money through a fivefold strategy and strengthen the international tax administration to bring unaccounted money stashed abroad into the tax stream. Considering that Nagpur is surrounded with areas with a large tiger population, they also informed Ahluwalia that the region is demanding the naming of this as the 'Tiger Capital of India'. NCCL requested the deputy chairman to convey this specific demand to the Central government.
Nagpur's Dandi March held successfully
A group of NRIs and Indians conceived the idea of Dandi March-II to fight against corruption. Alok Pandey, city coordinator of Dandi March-II for Nagpur, organised the walk against corruption to mark the end of the 390km long walk, which had started on March 12 in California and went through 35 cities of California. The main demand was to press the government to enact Jan Lokpal Bill and bring back black money stashed abroad. The walk in Nagpur was a huge success as the city witnessed a large number of people, specially young boys and girls, coming together early morning to make this event a success.
Outstanding concrete structures awards presented
ICI (Nagpur)-UltraTech Outstanding Concrete Structures Awards of Vidarbha 2010-11 were held at Hotel Tuli International, Sadar, recently. Central facility building located in Mihan was adjudged as winner in commercial/public building category and Fathers' House located at St Vincent Palloti College of Engineering and Technology Campus on Wardha Road was adjudged as winner in residential building category. UltraTech Cement Limited and Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) Nagpur centre have jointly instituted Outstanding Concrete Structure Award of Vidarbha to recognise and appreciate outstanding concrete structures built in Vidarbha. AK Mullick, former director general, NCCBM, Ballabhagarh, New Delhi, delivered a technical presentation on 'Sustainable concrete construction with ternary cement blends'.
