NASA's 18th Annual Great Moon Buggy Race wrapped up Saturday.
Teams from Puerto Rico took the top spot in both divisions. The University of Puerto Rico in Humacao won for the second straight year in the college division.
The top two spots in the high school division were won by Teodoro Aguilar Mora Vocational High School of Yabucoa. Third place went to Jupiter High School Team II of Jupiter, Florida.
For the college teams, the University of Alabama in Huntsville took second place while the University of Utah and Ohio State University tied for third.
More than 70 teams from 22 states, Puerto Rico, Canada, Germany, India and Russia took part in this year's race.
Each moon buggy carried two students--one female and one male--over half a mile on a simulated lunar terrain course that included craters, rocks, lava, ridges, inclines and lunar soil.
NASA's original lunar vehicle made its first excursion on the moon's surface 40 years ago in July 1971.
