IIT-Guwahati is on the lookout for a science wizard among school and college students for which it is conducting an entrance exam in the 120 cities across India, including Nagpur. The entrance test is open only to students from Std IX-XII, registrations for which can be done on the spot on July 17 at the centre, Saraswati Vidyalaya. Students can also register by logging on to www.techniche.org/technothlon.html
The exams have been christened 'Technothlon International School Championship' and it is the only ticket which will allow students to participate in the big event. IIT-Guwahati's annual techno-management festival called Techniche-2011 will be held at the institute campus later in the year.
The exam, which will be held from 11am to 1pm on Sunday, is unique again because you cannot give it alone! Exam has to be given in teams consisting of two members only. There will be two categories for the exam, one will comprise students of Std IX-X and the other of students of Std XI-XII.
Anvay Meshram, an IIT-Guwahati student who is part of the group managing the exam in Nagpur, said, "We want to motivate students to bring out the best in them. Who knows there could a future international scientist somewhere in Nagpur itself! Last year too we had tremendous response with 1.5 lakh students enrolling for the prelim exam across India. We also aim to familiarize school students with the latest advancements in the sphere of technology by giving them exposure."
The competition is tough as only top 50 teams, each from both the groups, will be chosen to participate in the main event at IIT-Guwahati to be held from September 1-4.
The four-day session at Guwahati will see students from both the groups undergo three competitive events where they will have mentors for guidance. The scores of each team will be calculated and the top five teams from both the squads shall qualify for the finals.
The events for the finals have not been disclosed so that no one can have an edge and prepare early. IIT-Guwahati has also kept the championship prize a suspense!
Apart from the competition, the students will get exposure in academic field by being allowed to attend lectures of eminent national professors. Details can be had from Anvay Meshram on 07709332557 or send a mail to technothlon@techniche.org
