With a view to generate employment opportunities for the local people in the Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (Mihan), along with the special economic zone (SEZ), the Vidarbha Statutory Development Board (VSDB) has suggested 288 various educational courses to universities in Vidarbha. The VSDB recently held meetings with the authorities of Rashtra Sant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Amravati University, Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (Agriculture University), state government's Department of Higher and Technical Education in this connection. Sources said that the vice chancellors of these universities have shown willingness to start 113 courses, including the IT, aviation and various engineering courses, from the ongoing academic year -- 2011-12. But, the courses are yet to take off as the Mihan officials could not provide a list of companies as demanded by the universities. "We asked them to provide information on companies, which are supposed to start their operations in Mihan, so that, we could start only those courses. However, despite repeated requests, we haven't received any communication from their side. There is no point in starting courses, which will have no future in the project," official sources from Nagpur University told PTI. He added that many of the courses including aviation, hotel management and mechanical engineering, are already there in various colleges in Nagpur. "About the rest of the courses, we are still awaiting response from the Mihan officials," he said (More) PTI JOE
