NAGPUR TOI NEWS : With traffic police turning a blind eye, private inter-city buses plying on city roads are causing traffic jams during peak hours at many place. These buses are ply regularly across the city, clogging traffic on major thoroughfares at periodic intervals and causing inconvenience to motorists.

The worst-affected stretches include Bhole Petrol Pump square, entrace to Mhada Colony, Jadhav Chowk, Munje Chowk and Panchsheel Talkies square. Even the RTO and traffic police have failed to follow the high court directives to ensure that private buses do not create traffic jams.

Of these places, Jadhav Chowk faces severe traffic problems due to these private bus terminals. Two traffic constables were deputed at this busy junction, but to no avail. ""So whenever a bus arrives or leaves, there is complete chaos at the junction blocking traffic from all the four sides,"" Prabha Uchake a resident of Ganeshpeth.

Similar is the situation at three points on Amravati road. Private buses coming from Maharajbagh first block the traffic as they wait to turn to Mhada Colony. Then, all these buses go down the wrong side of the road for around 100 meters before entering from the rear gate of Mhada Colony.

Violation of basic rules by private buses causes frequent traffic jams. ""Private buses, which are least bothered about traffic rules, cause chaos and traffic remains clogged for 10-15 minutes at a stretch,"" rued motorists. ""The Bhole Petrol Pump square and a patch near VIP square has turned into 'illegal' bus stops for private buses. They create huge problems even for nearby residents,"" claimed Pravesh Bachchal a resident of Civil Lines.

During early morning and evening hours, when the bus traffic is at its peak, the situation worsens to the point of an absolute mess. The private bus owners behave like an organised gang, and don't think twice before assaulting anyone who questions their violation of traffic rules.

The situation is no different on Central Avenue near Geetanjali Talkies from where private buses ply to various destinations in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. They too often cause traffic jams. There are several junctions along Central Avenue, and in the absence of a traffic police, there are traffic jams most of the time.

Motorists too wondered that why traffic cops did not try to ease congestion caused due to halting of these private buses at any of these spots.
