US seeks details of B'deshi migrants

Some western nations have expressed fears to Indian intelligence that illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in city may try sneak in to their

countries posing as Indian citizens and carry out subversive activities.

The agencies had lately sounded alert about certain terror activists having made Nagpur as their base. They evade detection by mixing up with other Bangladeshi immigrants who come here seeking better life. Mumbai consulate of United States has recently sought help from intelligence agencies to nail the illegal migrant Bangladeshi who might apply for visa posing as Indian citizen.

TOI had reported on April 27 that illegal Bangladeshis in the city were under scanner of intelligence agencies. ATS Nagpur, after nabbing three illegal migrants recently, had prepared a list of 25 more who might be involved in anti-national activities like circulating fake currencies and narcotics trade.

A special security officer from US consulate has written to an intelligence agency offering to exchange information on illegal Bangladeshis holed up in the second capital of Maharashtra. Sources said Americans had also shown keenness to have the details of the illegal Bangladeshis who are on the run and also the ones rounded up in recent past.

They have asked for names and dates of birth of the illegal migrants for reference during processing of the visa applications. The officer has assured to share details of the applications of suspects with intelligence agencies. Most advanced countries have spruced up visa processing following the heightened terror threat. Bangladesh, where four Islamic terror outfits including Harkat-ul-Jehad-al-Islami (HuJI) have made their base, is viewed as one of the terror hubs of the world.
