Nagpur University News :- Complaint against vice chancellor in roster scam

A police complaint was lodged on Wednesday against vice chancellor SN Pathan and other officials at Sitabuldi police station in the
sensational roster scam of Nagpur University exposed by TOI.

The complainant Sunil Mishra (who was one of those convicted in the fake marksheet and revaluation scam) has also named the state government's General Administration Department (GAD), higher and technical department, director and joint director (Nagpur region) in higher education and officials from university's backward class cell in his complaint. Mishra has attached various documents he had accessed using the RTI Act along with the GAD team's report with the complaint to press his claims.

Sitabuldi police inspector HR Reddiwar confirmed they had received a complaint on Thursday and were writing a letter to all those named in the complaint, including Pathan, asking for their explanation.

TOI had exposed the scam in its March 19 edition by reporting about how the university failed to verify its roster, which is allegedly full of illegal appointments, for over four years. This fact was revealed after the divisional commissioner's letter of July 7, 2004, went missing under mysterious circumstances. TOI had also reported that the roster was tampered by officials for their own benefits.

Taking cognizance of the expose, the government had deputed a two-member panel from its GAD, led by section officer S G Kedare to inspect the roster. The team brought to fore startling revelations including the fact that the university had flouted all rules and regulations while filling posts of assistant registrars.

The issue that rocked the university had also found mention in the state legislative council on June 16 when leader of opposition Pandurang Fundkar along with state BJP president Nitin Gadkari and Ashok Mankar raised the issue and demanded a clarification from the government.

Following this, the government had directed the university to probe the entire scam. The VC had then appointed a three-member panel led by retired high court judge GG Loney to investigate and submit a report within three months.
