Delhi:- 13 more flu cases in capital
Thirteen new swine flu cases were confirmed in the capital on Tuesday, with two patients admitted in RML Hospital reportedly in a
serious condition. Three schools in the city were also shut for a week after three students tested positive. Of the 13 new cases, two patients are from Mandavli village area.
Of the two serious cases, one is a 22-year-old man who had travelled from Riyadh. He has reportedly developed multiple complications. The other patient is a 40-year-old man who works with a cargo handling agency at the domestic airport. He is suffering from pneumonia. "Both are serious and were admitted onMonday. The boy who has come from Riyadh has a history of hypertension, which has resulted in enlargement of his heart and acute renal failure. The other cases is also on high dose of antibiotics and Tamiflu. We have sent their samples for testing,'' said Dr N K Chaturvedi, medical superintendent, RML Hospital.
Meanwhile, at RML, chaos reigned as the H1N1 screening centre screened 561 cases till 4pm on Tuesday. "I was shocked to see that till Tuesday morning we had screened 781 cases in 24 hours. There are 14 screening centres in Delhi and people should go to the nearest testing centres. There was a small scuffle as patients were getting impatient while waiting for their turn and we had to call the police. We have increased the staff strength at the centre,'' said Dr Chaturvedi.
Following the confirmation of two cases from their village, close to 237 people from Mandavli queued up at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for testing. "We just have 13 cases today, but 237 people turned up at LBS for testing. I'm told that these two positive cases had attended some function at the village. Our contact tracing teams had gone to the village to find out about the contacts of these patients and that is when a good number of them turned up for testing,'' said Delhi's health minister Kiran Walia.
Meanwhile, three schools Ahlcon International, Ahlcon Public School and Heritage School decided to remain shut till Monday after three cases were confirmed from the schools. "Yesterday two students tested positive at our school. The had attended school till last Friday, that is why we decided to close the school till Monday. We are fumigating and disinfecting the school,'' said R K Sharma, principal, Ahlcon Public school.
