Five countries, including hosts India, will vie for the top honours during the three-day 13th SAARC Countries Carrom Championship starting at MIG Club here tomorrow.
Chairman of the Organising Committee, Vijay Kamble, told reporters that Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bangladesh and Nepal have confirmed their participation in the tournament which is held annually.
Pakistan also wanted to join but could not due to some visa related problem, he said.
This is the third time India are playing host to the championship, having earlier organised it in 2004 at New Delhi and in 2007 at Nagpur.
Both men and women will compete under four categories -- team championships, singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
Organising Secretary Arun Kedar said that Yogesh Pardeshi and I Ilavazhaki -- would defend men's and women's singles titles respectively won in Lanka last October.
