The day after Nagpur’s temperature hit 45 degree Celsius for the first time this summer, the regional meteorological centre predicted there were chances of rain or thundershowers in Vidarbha over the next 24 hours.
The prediction, put out at 6 pm on Thursday, said that the sky would remain partly cloudy, with chance of rain or thundershowers towards the evening or night over eastern Vidarbha. The forecast was the same for 48 hours.
Meanwhile, the rest of Vidarbha continued to sizzle despite a scanty cloud cover that came over the region.
The highest temperature recorded in the region was at Wardha, which saw 46 degrees. According to official reports, heat wave conditions prevailed over eastern Vidarbha, and northern Chhattisgarh.
Currently, an upper air cyclic circulation over Vidarbha and adjacent areas is extending up to lower level of the atmosphere. Besides, some cloud cover is also visible over parts of eastern Maharashtra in the satellite images. These indicate that the maximum temperature may go down over the next few days but will rise again once the clouds are gone.
