Former mayor Pandurang Hiwarkar, who has been accused of running a gambling den, has alleged that vested interests had prompted the cops to conducting the raid on his premises.
Police had rounded up 24 persons from premises owned by Hiwarkar for allegedly participating in gambling on Monday.
Hiwarkar charged the cops with being biased.
He claimed that on Tuesday the game of cards were being played by the so-called accused on his premises "with the authorisation of the police department".
He said that he possesses license to organise such card games. Hiwarkar claimed that cops had been repeatedly harassing him for monetary favours. Since he failed to pay the money, he had been troubled with legal action.
Hiwarkar denied that huge money were involved in the card games. He said that the cops seized cash from his property deal business, and not from any gambling activities.
