NAGPUR :- Lovelorn youth ends life in city bus

A 24-year-old youth was found dead inside a stationary city bus on Amravati road near Maharajbagh on Tuesday morning. Cops suspect that Atul Chandankhede consumed poison after being jilted in love.

Cops found a suicide note in Chandankhede`s trouser pocket. In it, he wrote that no one was responsible for his death but that he was taking the extreme step after being rejected by a girl. Chandankhede`s family members claimed that the handwriting on the suicide note wasn`t his.

They said he was depressed for the past year after he broke up with the girl with whom he had a three-year-long relationship.

Chandankhede, a resident of Kinidhanoli village located 3 km from Hingna, was staying at his maternal uncle`s residence at Wanadongri. A matriculate, he was working with a private company in MIDC for the past one month.

The body was discovered by a bus driver, who driver immediately informed the company manager Mahesh Kandalkar and alerted Sitabuldi police station. The body was found in the last row of seats of the bus that parked on the Amravati road. The cops established Chandankhede`s identity on the basis of a voter ID card found on his person. The cops also found his cell phone and informed the family members.

Kandalkar said the bus was one of the vehicles damaged by a mob after a recent accident and hence was kept parked on the roadside. "I wonder how this happened even though four guards were deployed. I will have to tighten the security now," he said.

Chandankhede left his uncle`s home on Monday around 9 am. "He said he was going for a friend`s marriage and would return by evening," said the uncle Yeshwant, adding that when he did not return, the family members inquired with his friends and were told that he could return on Tuesday. "However, today, cops gave us the shocking news," Yeshwant said.

Chandankhede`s younger brother Aakash said that the girl with whom of the deceased had a relationship was a maternal cousin. "Since Chandankhede was unemployed then, the parents rejected the marriage proposal and hence the girl had also discontinued the relationship," he said.

Aakash told that despite of the break-up, Chandankhede tried hard to convince her and also found a job. "Though he never shared his problems with me, I learned about his depressed state through a common friend. He added that before leaving home, he had told this friend that either he would return only after marrying the girl or end his life.

A case of accidental death has been registered.
