On Valentine's Day, youngsters expect gifts and greetings from their beloved ones. But the Government Polytechnic in the city would be giving its students a gift that they would cherish for lifetime on that day. The institute would be conferring diplomas on over 400 students on Monday at a grand convocation ceremony to be held on its premises from 11 am.
Nagpur University vice chancellor Vilas Sapkal will be the chief guest of the 13th convocation ceremony while joint director of technical education and chairman of governing board of Government Polytechnic RS Naidu will preside over.
Gold and silver medals will be awarded to meritorious students of all engineering disciplines. Sponsored prizes will be awarded to students, Naidu said. Head of textile manufacturing department Deepak Kulkarni, training and placement officer Vijay Jadhao and controller of examination Surendra Kukadapwar accompanied him.
From this year on, cash prizes will be given to all the toppers across all disciplines, Naidu added. He said during this year in the continuing education drive, the college had conducted 19 programmes generating over Rs 1 crore evenue. 2,000 students benefitted through these. This year over 65 students were placed in renowned companies, during campus interviews. Three new awards have also been added for overall topper from all engineering branches.
