Seventeen pilgrims, including nine women, were today killed and 29 others injured when a bus carrying them fell off a bridge in Buldana district of Maharashtra.
The mishap occurred in the wee hours on the Nanganga bridge near Talaswada village in Malkapur town of the district, when the bus was on its way back from Shirdi and Shani Shingnapur to Nagpur, police said.
The pilgrims were mostly from Ashti and Arvi taluka of Wardha district, they said.
The driver of the bus identified as Prashant Lohankar and conductor Pravin Rameshrao Bhoyar, were among the dead. Other deceased, including two couples and eight men, have not been identified yet.
The injured pilgrims, mostly women have been admitted to the district hospital in Buldana, police added.
