In gross violation of high court directives, a transport company owned by businessman Mohabbat Singh Tuli has illegally blocked a part of the road near Automotive Square on Kamptee Road.
Even after many complaints by the residents both Nagpur Municipal Corporation and city police seem to be sleeping over the issue, perhaps waiting for a major mishap to happen on the busy road. Due to this, the commuters coming from Indora square on the way to Jaripatka police station are facing immense hardships as there is little space available since the road has been completely encroached by the - Tuli Crane Services.
A visit to the spot showed that the transporter had allegedly encroached upon the entire road and is using the road space for parking cranes, besides repairing them.
This encroachment has blocked the movement of vehicles coming from the Indora chowk heading towards Jaripatka ring road, rued motorists. As per the residents and motorists, Tuli's money and muscle power seem to be stopping the NMC and police from taking action against the family.
Manish Gajbhiye, a resident of Jaripatka, pointed out that though the road is wide enough to ensure free flow of traffic, it has been reduced to a narrow lane due to widespread encroachments by the transport company, leading to frequent traffic jams.
Moreover, the transport company has also encroached a few meters of the ring road for repair works. Residents also alleged that Tulis are not allowing the concerned authorities to even construct the road.
"Garage workers reportedly repair vehicles on the busy square which connects the city with Kamptee ring roads while the company also uses the road for parking their transport vehicles," alleged Dinesh Kamble another motorist who daily travels on this road from his house in Indora for his office in Koradi.
Kamble claimed that recently a motorist sustained serious injuries after his two-wheeler hit a parked crane. The Tulis have also allowed a political party to open office on the encroached land so that no one would dare to raise voice against them or file a complaint. Residents also alleged that in the past Tulis have reportedly threatened them of dire consequences and therefore people don't come forward fearing retaliation.
Karan Tuli, one of the directors of the transport company, admitted that the road has been encroached upon. He, however, justified that as there is a big manhole on the road and by blocking the road they are saving the lives of motorists." DCP (traffic) Sahebrao Patil was not available for comment.
