The government has emphasised on strengthening primary health care in and health care in rural parts of Maharashtra.
An amount of Rs24 crore has been set aside for providing X-ray and ECG facilities in primary health care for patients in rural areas.
It has also decided to provide blood banks in rural hospitals and increase various facilities for patients and their relatives in different hospitals.
For construction in medical colleges and hospitals Rs67.26 crore has been set aside. They include Sasoon General Hospital, Pune (Rs20.50 crore), Government Medical College, Nanded (Rs.8.33 crore), Cancer Hospital, Aurangabad (Rs5.43 crore), Government Medical College (Ghati), Aurangabad (Rs25 crore), and Cancer Center at Kasturba Health Society, Wardha (Rs6 crore).
For the construction of a new library building at Nagpur a Rs2 crore outlay has been provided. The required amount will also be made available for construction of a new building of Government Medical College, Yavatmal.
The government has also decided to pump in Rs166 crore to the centrally-sponsored National Rural Health Mission that is being implemented effectively in the state. Apart from public health, Rs57.27 crore has been set aside for construction, modernisation and strengthening of various veterinary hospitals in the state.
Dr Arun Jamkar, vice-chancellor, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), said: “I am very happy with the health provisions in the budget. It is good to see the government concentrating on health care in rural areas.”
