Ironically, there was an extremely poor response for the Marathi version of PET to be held in December with only 35 candidates (1.12%) opting for it. Many candidates among those 2,600 aggrieved students, who had applied for registration since last couple of years but were denied exemption, also sat in the exam.
Around 3,100 registered for the exam that stretched for four days from July 7 to 11 of which 2,919 actually appeared. As per the statistics provided by controller of examinations Siddharth Kane, 934 managed to clear it where 526 were boys while 408 were girls. The highest score by a candidate was 76/100 while lowest was 1.
"The successful candidates have to now complete registration formalities at their department of liking before July 15 and submit their synopsis which will be placed before Research Recognition Committee (RRC)," Kane told TOI. Those failing to do it before the deadline would be considered for January 15 deadline next year. However, when quizzed on as to when the RRC would be constituted in absence of Board of Studies (BOS), he replied that those will start functioning within two to three months.
The list of successful candidates would be uploaded on the NU website but it will be according to the serial numbers instead of merit for the convenience, the COE pointed out.
The exam was conducted online in four batches at various centres with the help of Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL). The centres included - NU campus library, Ramdeobaba Engineering College, Dhanwate National College (DNC) and Shivaji Science College.
