An engineering student has been arrested by Nandanvan police from Wardha on Friday for his alleged involvement in duping a city-based job aspirant. Police was alerted by Shaikh Waheed who claimed to have been duped by the representative of the so-called private company which had promised him a job against payment.Senior inspector Sunil Jaiswal of Nandanvan police said that Waheed, a college student, was lured to deposit money twice in a bank account at a local branch. Waheed had contacted the company representative following an advertisement in newspapers. The advertisement was published welcoming the unemployed youths for registering against payment for a bright future.
Waheed was guided the representative to deposit Rs 2,050 in the account number that he had furnished to him. Waheed later deposited another Rs 3,420 in the same account after around a week. Police said that Waheed had deposited the amounts twice in July. The phone of the representative remained unanswered when Waheed tried to contact him.
Nandanvan police's head constable Suresh Wankhede apparently checked the account number in which Waheed had deposited the money in Nagpur. He learnt that the money was transferred to the Wardha based main branch of the bank subsequently after they were deposited in Nagpur.
Wankhede said that police had learnt that the money was transferred to another account in a separate branch of the same bank. The name of the account holder, Sachin Ugde, the engineering student, came to fore before the police. "We got the name and address of the company but it was locked. Local people said that the office was not opened for around a month-and-half," said Wankhede.
"We had managed to find the photograph of Ugde, the account holder. His address in Sawangi in Wardha was vague. We walked for more than 17 km in Sawangi before Ugde was traced and taken into custody," said Wankhede. "We are trying to see how many more victims have been duped by Ugde. Police also needs to see whether there are more people involved in the fraud," he said.
