Come Saturday and academic activities in Nagpur University would restart after a long gap of over a year. The 88-year-old institution would be conducting its first full-fledged meeting of senate. However, it assumes importance in view that it would first select eight members on the management council, universityas highest decision-making statutory body, NU officials said.
Over 90 senate members will select a dean, two principals (male and female), one postgraduate teacher from NU departments, two from private colleges, a member from graduate constituency and two representatives from private college managements (male and female), on the council. Polls on one seat of principal would not be held as qualified candidate in Nomadic Tribe (NT) category was not available.
Another three members would be selected by NUas newly-constituted academic council during its first meeting on November 11. Ten members were nominated on the council from various quarters including registrar, controller of examinations (CoE), finance and accounts officer, Board of College and University Development (BCUD) director and joint directors of higher education and technical education among others. Vice chancellor remains the chairman of the management council and all other statutory bodies like academic council and senate.
