Over 12,000 engineers belongingto the state-owned power companies in Maharashtra todaythreatened to go on a three-day strike from February 1 toprotest the Government''s decision to outsource distributionnetwork in cities such as Nagpur and Aurangabad to privateentities.
"We are against the franchisee model in distributionas it amounts to back-door privatisation. We want theGovernment not to go ahead with the proposal failing whichwe will go on a 3-day strike between February 1 and 3,"Subordinate Engineers'' Association said in a statement here.
Besides, the association has also demanded revisionin the wages.
An office bearer with the association said the strikewould not result in power shut-down in the state but anymechanical or technical fault would not be attended to by theengineers or the technical staff due to the strike.
