According to the police, the deceased, Naru Samudre (30) was riding the moped while her son Shubham (12) and a friend Sitabai Tirgam, also in her thirties, were riding pillion. The trio was heading towards a friend's place in Jaripatka when Safari's driver, who was highly inebriated, coming from opposite side hit the two-wheeler. The riders were thrown off but the moped got entangled with Safari body and was dragged a long distance. The vehicle came to a halt it collided with a drum kept on the roadside, said a cop.
Police said Samudre, who suffered serious head injuries, died on the spot. Her son, who also sustained severe injuries, is being treated at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH). Sitabai had a lucky escape with minor injuries, said a cop. Family members said initially Samudre and Shubham started off on the moped.
Along the way, they met Sitabai, an acquaintance, whose bicycle had got punctured. Samudre offered her a lift, informed a relative. The deceased was working as sales woman. Jaripatka police have registered a case of culpable homicide and the driver of Safari Anil Yadav (32) has been arrested.
