Boys try to con edu office using fake TC

Two young boys tried their luck, unsuccessfully, in officially validating their fake transfer certificates (TC) from the deputy director (education) office. On August 2, education officials were visited by two youngsters who wanted to certify their Std XI TC from a city college, as they wanted to take admission in a Gondia-based college.

PP Nikas, assistant director (education), said, "The two boys had brought three TCs along with written applications saying they wanted us to certify the documents. I immediately sensed something was wrong as the serial numbers mentioned on them were not in the proper format. I asked the boys to wait for sometime and also took down their numbers and address."

The fake TC was made similar to the ones issued by Guru Nanak high school and junior college in Mecosabagh, hence Nikas informed the concerned principal. The boys had however managed to sneak out of the office building sensing that their game was up.

Jaspal Singh Saluja, principal of Guru Nanak College, said, "I visited the education office and immediately told them that the TC was a fake. The principal's signature printed there did not resemble mine and there was a mismatch in the date mentioned on the TC and the one they mentioned in their written application."

Usually when students shift to a different state or a different board they get their TC certified by the local education officer. This authentication makes the admission process smoother as the new school or college have to indulge in another round of verification, if it chooses to do so.

Nikas said, "I want to clarify that whenever a TC is brought to us, we are not certifying that the TC is genuine. What we are certifying is that the school or college is a recognized institution affiliated to our board. In fact, from now we are asking students to bring a letter from their school principal certifying that the TC is genuine, and we will keep that in our records in case an issue crops up in the future."

Rajendra Unawne, senior police inspector of Jaripatka police station, said, "We have registered a FIR and are investigating the matter further. This is the first time I have seen such a case coming to my police station."
